When the Renovation Hunters team first arrived at this modular home, they knew transforming it would be a challenge. The 1600-square-foot fixer-upper had accumulated lots of damage over the years, and the crew found more mobile home updates as they went.
For the Clear family, this camp-style double-wide mobile home was a vacation property tied to their father’s legacy. When he lost his battle to ALS, going to the beloved but old mobile home was tough. Our goal was to change that – and we did!
Watch as Steve Stack sits down with Kevin Tarkovich, Renovation Hunters’ lead contractor, to discuss the project, including the family’s touching story. We chat about all the love, sweat and tears that went into the mobile home renovation upgrade, including several of our high-quality materials.

Welcome to another episode of the American Hardwood Advisor podcast, hosted by Steve Stack! However, home improvement is not the only focus in Hal Shaffer’s, or the rest of the Renovation Hunters crew’s minds.
Yes, interior design trends, home decor, real estate development, and home building in general are all a major part of this whole operation. With that said, though, the crew of Renovation Hunters feels that the biggest contributor to their love of the show is their experience with the homeowners.
Every home project, big or small, is going to have road bumps along the way that turn a home makeover into a hassle. This never gets under their skin though, because they are motivated to come to their home town, and turn a fixer upper into a dream home for each and every family that they meet in this journey. It’s hard to be upset about roofing when you adore the people you’re doing it for.
Because of meeting a homeowner with ALS, Renovation Hunters partnered with the ALS Foundation, and is planning to take part in more charity work going forward. The people that the cast and crew meet along the way with this home improvement show are having a major impact, not just on the home design, but the show itself and how we are giving back to the community.

Deep Dive Into the Linesville Home Remodel (with Christy Miller) | AHA
Welcome back to the American Hardwood Advisor podcast! Today, Steve Stack is joined by Christy Miller to discuss the Renovation Hunters house remodeling project in Linesville, Pennsylvania. While not as troublesome a makeover as some past home improvement projects had been, this one came with its own challenges, such as working with the limited square footage and abnormal floor plan, that made the final product that much more rewarding.
The Linesville home saw many upgrades w that the crew was proud of, as they attempted to focus on both aesthetics and functionality. The kitchen remodel was a particular triumph for them, as it had been taken down to the bare bones and redone. Starting off from any empty room with nothing but drywall. New countertops, cabinetry, light fixtures, and new tables and benches for the dining room area were all amazing remodeling ideas that the crew was able to come up with.
The living room also became a crucial part of the home design, with new casings and baseboards throughout the whole house, and other pieces of interior design that made the house look like a brand new home that the homeowners adore.
Last but not least, a personal favorite home addition for this renovation project, the new master bedroom for the grandmother of the family. With a big family in a small home, it is hard to find some time for yourself. With this addition, the hardworking grandmother has her own living space that gives her some privacy, while still giving her easy access to the rest of the home if she is needed.

How to Install Baseboard on Uneven Floor | Shop Talk
When dealing with an old house remodel, addition, or home improvement project, it’s not unusual to find issues with uneven hardwood flooring. Because of this unevenness, trying to install baseboards becomes difficult to cope with, especially for beginners, as you now have to fix gaps between the baseboard trim and the floor. In this episode of Shop Talk, host Steve Stack is joined by Christy Miller from Oak Hill Millworks on one of the Renovation Hunters’ job sites to discuss how they addressed the issue.
When your floor is uneven, you do have options. One option is to build up the subfloor with shims, which are thin wedges of wood that serve as a filler between the subfloor and the wood floors you install. However, you may find that you can’t completely level your floor this way, and will then see large gaps between the baseboard moulding and the floor.
When installing baseboards on a floor that is out of level, you must scribe baseboards. First, use a miter saw to cut your baseboards to length and place them against the uneven wall to see where the gaps are. This is when you mark the spot on the baseboards where you will remove parts with a jigsaw or circular saw, and clean the cut-up with a block plane if needed. If the inside corners are raised, remove part of the baseboard corners.
If there are still inconsistencies with the level line, you can install shoe moulding or skirting boards in front of the baseboards to help hide them.

What Goes Into Production for a Home Renovation Show? | AHA
The dream home makeovers that the Renovation Hunters crew give to homeowners is only one of the many moving parts that make this all possible. Viewers see the home improvement side of the operation; what viewers don’t see is the extensive production work that takes place as well. TV shows like Renovation Hunters, Property Brothers, Fixer Upper, House Hunters, etc., all take dedication and focus from the crew to deliver on their promises to the homeowners, as well as the audience.
Derek Orr, Senior Producer of Outdoor Sportsman Group, joins Steve Stack to discuss production on Renovation Hunters. Not only organizing the projects themselves, the discovery of families and real estate, going to their home towns, but then doing the actual renovation itself and making sure that the important parts are captured on camera is not an easy task.
These builds are not simple DIY projects, and plans do not always go as they drew up, and production needs to be available to capture the progress of the build while being stretched in many different directions. Things move quickly on the job site, and the project can go from fabulous to needing an overhaul in an instant. It would be easy to have a chip on your shoulder in that setting, but that’s something we don’t see.
Home renovation is hard work: interior design, dealing with limited space in a tiny house, living up to expectations for a family’s historic home, landscaping – the pressure and labor are intensive. But the production crew deserves their flowers as well, as they are also putting in their max effort. Whether Renovation Hunters takes the crew to Virginia, Texas, Mississippi, or anywhere else under the sun, the production crew is hard at work to make things go smoothly.
